Aiken and Firebirds back in playoff contention with win over Giants Netball

The clash of Jamaicans in round 11 of the Suncorp Super Netball league saw Kadie-Ann Dehaney coming away happier after Melbourne Vixens ran out comfortable 73-48 winners against Shimona Nelson’s Adelaide Thunderbirds.

The Vixens, following the result which was their 5th consecutive win, moved up to second on 55 points.

Wing attack Liz Watson was named MVP with 31 assists, Dehaney was huge on the defensive end and finished with five intercepts – while goal shooter Mwai Kumwenda potted 52 goals at a clip of 93 per cent

Nelson in that game converted 7 of her 9 attempts for the winless Thunderbirds to go 6th on the league scoring chart with 341 goals.

Elsewhere Romelda Aiken, despite an inefficient 35 goals from 51 shots, compiled 7 assists and 9 rebounds to lead the Queensland Firebirds to a big 64-50 win against Giants Netball.

The Firebirds with their latest win move back into the top 4 and playoff contention on 49 points.

Top spot on the table is held by Jhaniele Fowler’s West Coast Fever who battled to a 74-68 win against the NSW Swifts on Saturday.

Fowler during that contest went 61 of 65 to become the first player this season to go over the 600 goal plateau with 616.
