Air traffic controllers end sick out; to resume duties this evening

by June 17th, 2023

Air traffic controllers are expected to resume normal duties with the 7:00 o’clock shift this evening.

This after the Labour ministry intervened, following reports of industrial action yesterday.

Majority of air traffic controllers, at the 2 main airports in Kingston and Montego Bay, had called in sick for the 11:00 p.m. shift.

The authority implemented contingency measures, to allow for the continued delivery of air traffic services within Jamaica’s airspace.

But, due to man power shortage, services were temporarily suspended between midnight and 7:00 o’clock this morning, which affected at least 3 flights.

The Labour ministry then called the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority and the Jamaica Air Traffic Controllers Association, to an emergency conciliatory meeting this morning.

Labour minister Pearnel Charles Jnr said the parties have agreed to continue talks about the compensation review, at the local level.
