AK47 rifle found in Kingston

A high-powered rifle and close to 100 assorted rounds of ammunition were seized by the police in separate incidents yesterday (Sep 28).

The high-powered rifle (an AK 47) was seized by the Kingston Eastern police on D’Aguilar Road, Kingston 2.

A police team reportedly conducted a raid at a premises about 10:15 p.m., during which the weapon was found hidden in a drum. Seven 7.62 cartridges were also seized. No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.

Earlier in the day, fifty-two 12-gauge cartridges were seized during an operation on Ducketts Road in St. James about 3:55 p.m., while another two were seized during a snap raid on Grove Road in St. Andrew about 2:45 p.m.

According to reports from the Cambridge police, the team from St. James conducted a search of bushes in the area, during which the rounds were found hidden in a plastic bag.

Two ballistic vests were also seized in this incident.

The Half Way Tree police made their find when they searched a premises and found the rounds concealed in the ceiling of the building.

Meanwhile, last evening saw the seizure of an additional 40 rounds of ammunition in Old Harbour Bay, St. Catherine.

Reports from the Old Harbour Bay police are that about 8:10 p.m., a police team was on patrol in Dagger Bay when they attempted to accost a man.

He ran, dropping an object as he fled. The object, a plastic bag, was retrieved and searched and twenty-five 9 millimetre cartridges, ten 12-gauge cartridges, four .38 cartridges and one .45 cartridge were found.

No one was arrested in connection with the seizures.
