Jamaican world record holder Alia Atkinson was a double medal winner at the final stop of the 2017 FINA/Airweave Swimming World Cup Series which concluded in Singapore on Sunday.

Atkinson won gold in the women’s 50 metre breaststroke after rushing to the wall in 29.29 seconds to finish ahead of Australia’s Emily Seebohm and Rikke Pedersen of Denmark.

It came after she swam 1:03.79 seconds on the opening day to claim gold in the women’s 100 metre breaststroke.

Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom meanwhile finished as the overall world cup series winner for the 2017 season – a result that saw her break a run of 5 consecutive titles by Hungary’s Iron Lady, Katinka Hosszu.

Sjostrom’s wins on day 2 came in the women’s 50m butterfly and 200m freestyle events, where the 24-year-old Olympic gold medalist earned times of 24.61 and 1:51.63, respectively.

In the men’s division, Chad Le Clos, despite being edged out by Russian Vlad Morozov for the cluster #3 bonus, won the 7th overall title earned by a South African and represents the first time a man has won 4 crowns. Le Clos previously won the overall title back in 2011, 2013 and 2014.
