All-rounder Andre Russell recalled and Chris Gayle set to play at a fifth ICC Cricket World Cup

Jamaica and West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has returned to the West Indies line up, and veteran West Indies opener Chris Gayle is set to play at a fifth Cricket World Cup .

This after the Jamaican duo was named in the West Indies’ 15-man squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup in England and wales this summer.

The 39 year old gale, is 253 runs short of surpassing Brian Lara as the windies’ leading batsman in ODI cricket, while Russell who last played ODI cricket in July 2018 has been in sublime hitting form in the ongoing Indian premier league, with 392 runs in nine matches at a strike-rate of 218.

Meanwhile, as reported by Irie Fm sports yesterday another Jamaican in – batsman Marlon Samuels was not named in the lineup, but the fast-bowling duo of Sheldon Cottrell and Shannon Gabriel are include,  while Kemar roach and Oshane Thomas make up the rest of the pace attack.

Nicholas Pooran looks set to take the spot behind the stumps, with Shai Hope covering as a back-up wicket-keeper.

Leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo failed to make the cut, with Fabian Allen and Ashley nurse set to take up spinning responsibilities.

The all-rounder department is well-stocked, as Captain Jason Holder, who is ranked joint-sixth in the MRF Tyres ICC ODI all-rounder rankings, will be accompanied by Carlos Brathwaite in the middle of the order.

The full squad to be captained by Jason Holder includes veteran batsman Chris gale, Andre Russell, Sheldon Cottrell, Shannon Gabriel, Kemar Roach, Nicholas Pooran , Ashley Nurse, Fabian Allen, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope , Oshane Thomas, Carlos Brathwaite, Darren Bravo and Evin Lewis.
