James Anderson grabs career-best haul as the West Indies went down by 9 wickets in the 3rd and final Test at Lord’s to hand England a 2-1 series win.

After the visiting side was bowled out for 177 on the third evening, England chased down the 107-run target in 28 overs with play extended past the scheduled tea break. Mark Stoneman (40 not out) hit the winning runs off Devendra Bishoo, with Tom Westley for company on 44.

Earlier Shai Hope produced another fighting half century but could not prevent the Windies crashing to 177 all out in their second innings after starting the third day on 93 for 3, to give the hosts a modest victory target of 107.

The Barbadian fell for 62 after sharing in a 3rd wicket partnership of 48 with Kieran Powell, who fell for 45 yesterday, and put on 32 with captain Jason Holder who was dismissed for 23.

Shane Dowrich, 14, was the only other batsman for West Indies to get to double figures.

James Anderson meanwhile eclipsed his previous best of 7 for 43 against New Zealand in Nottingham in 2008 to claim a career best 7 for 42.

After claiming his 500th Test wicket yesterday, he now takes his overall tally to 506 and is now just 13 behind former Windies pacer Courtney Walsh.

Ben Stokes was named Man of the Match after taking 6 for 22 in the Windies first innings and following it up by scoring 60 to guide England to competitive score.

Shai Hope meanwhile scooped the Man of the Series award after scoring two centuries in the second Test and half century in the Windies second innings at Lord’s.

The result extends England’s unbeaten home record against West Indies that dates back to 1988, and also sends them off on their defence of the Ashes on the back of two Test series wins in Joe Root’s first summer as captain.

Both teams will next play one Twenty20 and five one-day internationals to conclude the tour.

Final scores, West Indies 123 and 177, England 197 and 107 for 1.
