Andre Blake nominated for MLS Goalkeeper of the Year

by October 17th, 2017

Reggae Boyz goalkeeper Andre Blake is set to create history in the MLS.

The 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup Golden Glove winner has once again been nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Year award, aiming to become the first back-to-back winner in MLS history.

Blake’s 2016 set career highs across the board, posting six shutouts and making 99 saves, many of which were highlight reels. He had a 1.56 goals against average and a 66 percent save percentage.

Those were dwarfed by his numbers in 2017.

Blake started just 25 games for the Union, a smaller number than last year due to more international call-ups and an injury during the Gold Cup final, but dazzled in those games.

His campaign in 2017 is highlighted by a four game shutout streak, the longest of his career and the most consecutive games with a shutout in Union history. In terms of minutes, his 378 minutes without allowing a goal was the second longest such stretch in Union history.

In 2017, Blake reeled off nine shutouts for the Union, setting a new career-high. His goals against average dropped to a paltry 1.32 and his save percentage increased to 70 percent, with one game remaining.

The Jamaican has also been nominated for save of the week eight times in 2017, or once every three games.
