Andre Blake returns to Reggae Boyz squad for Canada friendly

by August 30th, 2017

Andre Blake has been included by coach Theodore Whitmore in the Reggae Boyz squad for the friendly international against Canada at the BMO Field in Toronto on Saturday.

Blake, the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup Golden Glove winner, is returning to the side after injuring his hand during the final against the United States.

The incident occurred fairly early on in the game (within the first 20 min) where a collision with USA’s Kellyn Acosta, saw Blake cut the webbing between his index and middle finger. The cut needed seven stitches.

The 26 year old along with rest of the overseas based players will join the squad in Toronto except for defender Kemar Lawrence and goalkeeper Dwayne Miller who will be travelling with the local contingent.

The aggregation which includes first time invitee Dane Kelly of Reno 1868 FC is completed by local players Marvin Morgan, Ricardo Morris, Michael Binns, Vishinul Harris, Ladale Ritchie, Ewan Grandison, Jamiel Hardware and Shamar Nicholson.

The rest of the overseas contingent comprises Romario Williams, Je-Vaughn Watson, Oniel Fisher, Damion Lowe, Alvas Powell, Devon Williams, Shaun Francis and Jermaine Taylor who if selected on Saturday will be making his 99th international cap.

The Reggae Boyz, coached by Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore, are coming off a 2-1 friendly win over Trinidad and Tobago in Port of Spain on Thursday.

Jamaica last faced Canada in the 2017 Gold Cup quarterfinals where goals by Shaun Francis and Romario Williams steered them to a 2-1 win and a place in the last four where they would beat Mexico to advance to the final.
