Announcement of by-election date expected this evening

by March 1st, 2019

Anticipation is rife for the announcement of a by-election date for the East Portland constituency, this evening (Mar 1).

This as Prime Minister and Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party, Andrew Holness, will be heading to the east tonight, to support the party’s candidate, Ann-Marie Vaz.

The mass meeting at Port Antonio square is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.

Under the theme “Action Ann”, Mrs. Vaz is expected to outline her plans for the constituency, should she be successful in the upcoming by-election.

Also slated to address party supporters are JLP Chairman Robert Montague, General Secretary Dr. Horace Chang and MP for West Portland Daryl Vaz.

In the meantime, Opposition Leader and President of the People’s National Party, Dr. Peter Phillips will officially present that party’s candidate to the constituency on Sunday, March 3.

Senator Damion Crawford was selected to run, following overwhelming approval by the PNP’s executive committee, and calls from party supporters.

The mass meeting will be held at the Port Antonio square beginning at 5:00 p.m.

The East Portland seat became vacant, upon the murder of PNP MP Dr. Llynvale Bloomfield, last month.
