by May 25th, 2022

The government is to launch Project Birthright, which will provide free birth certificates for undocumented Jamaicans.

It’s expected that some 11,000 Jamaicans will benefit this year.

Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister Floyd Green says the initiative will be implemented under the NIDs project.

He explains that through the program, the NIDs project in collaboration with the Registrar General’s Department, RGD will develop, implement and promote outreach programmes at the RGD’s branch offices and across various communities for registering needy, undocumented Jamaican nationals.

Mr. Green announced the project during his contribution to the Sectoral Debate, yesterday (May 24).

Mr. Green stated that the programme will adopt existing means of verifying if the applicants were born in Jamaica.

Members of Parliament will be asked to help identify persons, who have no birth certificate.
