Former world record holder Asafa Powell and Olympic champion Elaine Thomson head a small group of four Jamaicans showing on the provisional start list for the penultimate stop on the IAAF Diamond League meetings…………….in Zurich on Thursday.
Half of this year’s Diamond League trophies will be awarded at Thursday’s Weltklasse meet .
Powell who missed out on making the Jamaica team for the recent world championships in London is on the list for the men’s 100 metres which also includes London World champion Justin Gatlin and the South African Akani Simbine.
Thompson who returned from the disappointment of the world championships with victory in Birmingham in the women’s 100 metres yesterday is listed for the women’s 200 metres where she will face compatriot Simone Facey as well as Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands, Marie Jose-Talou of the Ivory Coast and Shanaue Miller of the Bahamas.
National champion Danielle Williams will take on world champion Sally Pearson of Australia, and the Americans Dawn Harper-Nelson and Sharika Nelvis in the 100 metre hurdles.
