Justice Minister Delroy Chuck has likened the operation of banks in Jamaica to that of a cartel.
This, in the wake of more public outcry about exorbitant bank fees, and a call for the government to intervene.
Speaking at a function in St. Elizabeth yesterday, Mr. Chuck related that he too is affected by high bank fees.
The minister said he was charged over $2,000 for a simple letter that consisted of just 2 lines.
He chastised banks for offering the worst service in the country.
Mr. Chuck said banks are expected to operate in a free market system, however, the government will be forced to pass legislation to limit fees if this becomes necessary.
