by September 28th, 2017

A motorcyclist who allegedly fled from the traffic police in Runaway Bay, St. Ann, died after the vehicle crashed along the Northcoast highway.

The identity of the dead man has not yet been ascertained.

Head of the St. Ann Police Superintendent Gary Francis says police responding to another matter on the Runaway Bay main road, asked the biker to stop and park the vehicle, and also took the key away.

It’s reported that the biker was stopped because he was not wearing a helmet.

However, when the officer returned his attention to the previous situation, including clearing the roadway which had become congested due to a bus accident, the biker sped away.

Sometime later, the police received reports that the same biker crashed along the highway.

It’s not clear what caused the accident.

Meantime, Superintendent Francis says in the other matter, about 2:00 p.m. a public passenger bus that runs the Brown’s Town to Ocho Rios route, reportedly overturned along the Runaway Bay main road, near the Mt. Edgecombe housing scheme.

Superintendent Francis says it’s not clear what caused the bus to overturn, resulting in significant damage to the bus.

The injured persons were taken to hospital. Their injures are not considered life threatening.
