A bill for the upgrading of penalties has been laid before parliament.

Minister of Justice Delroy Chuck says the bill if passed, will see long awaited fine upgrades for penalties being increased.

He says under the upgrade, fines could move from $100, up to a million dollars.

He says, no longer should persons pay minor fines for crimes committed.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chuck is urging other ministries to get on board by submitting penalties for upgrade.

He was speaking at the ministry’s third quarterly press briefing in Kingston, this morning (Feb 15).
