National Junior 400 metres record holder Akeem Bloomfield is among four Jamaicans who advance to the final of their events last night at the NCAA Division One Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Bloomfield and Allen made both running for Auburn University progress to the gold medal round of the men’s 400 metres event.
Bloomfield formerly of Kingston College made progress when he posted 44.95 seconds to win semi-final 2 to advance with the 4th fastest time.
Allen is the 6th fastest qualifier in the event after he won semi-final 3 in 45.05 seconds.
Also making progress was Senoj-Jay Givens in the men’s 100 and 200 metres events.
Givens posted 20.32 seconds on his way to 2nd in semi-final two of the men’s 200 to advance with the 6th fastest time.
Givens also made progress in the men’s 100 where he clocked 10.02 seconds to finish 3rd in semi-final 3…………..his compatriot Odeen also advance to the final with a time of 10.03 seconds which landed him in second spot in semi-final 2.
Meanwhile the 21-year-old university of Tennessee Christian Coleman dominated the event posting 9.82 seconds to become the ninth fastest man over 100 meters.
Coleman, whose time equalled Richard Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago’s mark, broke the previous Collegiate 100meters record of 9.89 seconds.
In the meantime Rushelle Burton and Peta-Gay Williams in the 100 metre hurdles, Jonielle Smith in the 100 and Nathalyah Whyte in the 200 metres are among the Jamaicans who will be in action today.
