For the second time in Jamaica’s history and in the 60th year of its independence, a new series of banknotes has been launched.

This includes a $2,000 note bearing the image of late Former Prime Ministers Michael Manley and Edward Seaga.

The notes are a part of efforts to upgrade the currency in circulation to save cost through increased durability, enhanced security, and enhanced features to better meet the needs of the visually impaired, among others.

Speaking at the official launching ceremony this morning, Finance Minister, Dr Nigel Clarke noted that banknotes should also reflect the cultural heritage of the country.
