Brendan Rodgers has signed a £5 million-a-year contract with Leicester City after quitting Celtic to complete his return to the Premier League.

Rodgers is back in English football for the first time since October 2015 and ready to revive the former Premier League champions, with Leicester paying a compensation fee of around £6 million to sign him before the end of the season.

The 46-year-old has agreed a three-year deal after deciding to leave Celtic despite the prospect of securing a third successive treble in Scotland. It is understood Rodgers believes Leicester is the best job in the top flight outside England’s recognised top six and felt the opportunity to suceed Claude Puel was too good to miss.

Leicester possess a core of experienced players such as Jamie Vardy, Kasper Schmeichel and Harry Maguire, plus a number of exciting young talents such as Ben Chilwell, James Maddison and Harvey Barnes.

The East Midlands club will also move into a new £100 million training complex in the next few years, which is tipped to be one of the most advanced in Europe.

Rodgers watched Leicester’s game against Brighton at the King Power Stadium and will take charge of his first match this Sunday at Watford, one of his former clubs.
