Seventeen-year-old sprint sensation Briana Williams has withdrawn from the remainder of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA)/Supreme Ventures National Senior and Junior championships, at the National Stadium, because of illness.

This after she secured third place in the 100 meters in a new national junior record of 10.94 seconds.

The reigning sprint double world under 20 champion broke the record twice – 11.01 in the semi-finals and 10.94 in the finals –

With her spot on the national team to the IAAF World Championships in Doha secured, Williams who was down to compete in the 200 meters has sought a medical exemption and will take no further part in the championships.

Williams was beaten by the fastest time in the world this year set by Jamaican Olympic gold medallists Elaine Thompson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who were both timed in 10.73 seconds.

The 10.94 clocking by Williams also represents a world youth record, surpassing the 10.98 set by American Candace Hill in 2015.
