Bridgeport Primary in mourning following death of student

The Bridgeport Primary School in Portmore, St. Catherine, is in a somber mood this morning, as students and teachers mourn the death of a student, who was killed in a hit and run accident on Friday.

He has been identified as eight-year-old Dilshan Mclean, of Caymanas Estate, in Spanish Town.

Its reported that Dilshan and a grade 1 female student, had just left the school, when they were mowed down by a motor car.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop.

The children were rushed to hospital, where Dilshan died, and the girl admitted in serious but stable condition.

Principal of the school, Sandra Brown told irie fm news, that representatives from the education ministry and the police force, are working with the school, to offer grief counselling sessions for students and staff.

Ms. Brown said, every effort is being made to help the school deal with the tragedy.

Meantime, opposition spokesperson on education, Dr. Angela Brown Burke, is appealing for motorists to exercise extreme caution when travelling in school zones.

Speaking with Irie Fm news, Dr. Brown Burke noted, that the nation’s children are the responsibility of all adults, and that this role must be taken seriously.

Noting that children’s safety should be a priority, Dr. Brown Burke said, motorists should follow the road code, especially when travelling near school zones.

 

 

The opposition spokesperson is also urging parents, to make every effort, to ensure young children are not allowed to travel on the nation’s roadways unsupervised.
