Some Brown’s Town schools affected by flooding

Some schools in Brown’s Town, St. Ann, and South Trelawny were affected by flooding today (Jan 15).

Scores of Westwood High students travelling to school this morning had to turn back, due to several feet of water in the vicinity of Minard and Standfast, in Brown’s Town, St. Ann.

Driver of one of the private coaster buses, Robert Davis, says the water reached almost up to the bus’ headlights.

And, classes were dismissed early at the York Castle and Brown’s Town high schools, due to the impact of the rain.

The Brown’s Town Community College cancelled classes today due to the inclement weather.

It is reported that a section of the wall at the entrance to the college collapsed.

Principal of York Castle High Raymon Treasure says a number of teachers and students were unable to get to school today.

While, Principal of Brown’s Town High Alfred Thomas is advising parents and students to monitor the weather, and the schools social media page, regarding the resumption of classes.

Member of Parliament Dr. Dayton Campbell says he and representatives of the National Works Agency will visit the affected areas soon, to assess the damage.
