CAFFE says its ready for elections

by February 15th, 2016

With only ten days to go before the February 25 polls, election watchdog, Citizens Action for Free and Fair Elections, CAFFE, says its preparations are well advanced.

The group has been conducting recruitment exercises and training sessions across the island, already training some volunteers in St James, Kingston, St Andrew, and St Thomas.

While not focusing on the number of volunteers, the election observer group says it welcomes as many volunteers as possible, but its primary concern is to engage people who are not campaigning for either political party.

CAFFE says, it is working with a small budget, and is lamenting the limited monetary support from local businesses.

CAFFE board member, and coordinator for St Andrew, Nancy Anderson, says the group has also been making contact and reactivating previous parish coordinators.

She says, come Election Day, CAFFE will be paying special attention to about sixteen constituencies, where the victor won by 2-3% in the last general election.

She explains that CAFFE volunteers will be looking for irregularities to include, open voting, and eligible voters being prevented from voting.
