Calabar High School sets two records and sweeps all High School relays at 124th Penn Relays

Calabar High school became the first Jamaican boy’s high school to sweep the three championships relays on offer at the Penn relays.

The indomitable Red Hills Road based institution did so as they captured the 4×100, along with 4×400 and the 4×800 meters in record breaking times.

Only girl’s teams from Jamaica including Vere and Holmwood Technicals would have secured the sweep in the past.

In the meantime Jamaica’s women’s secured the lone victory for the country in the USA vs rest of the World Series as the curtains came down on the 124th staging of the Penn relays in Philadelphia today

The team of Gayon Evans, Kerron Stewart, Jura levy and Shillonie Calvert clocked 43.14 seconds defeating USA red 43.18 and USA blue 43.71.

Meanwhile the men’s team including Nester Carter, Tyquando Tracey Oshane Bailey and Jevaughn Minzie clocked 39.17 seconds to finish third behind USA blue with Justin Gatlin and USA red who won in 38.39 seconds

The women’s team of Christine Say, Anastasia Leroy, Rhonda Whyte and tiffany James secured the runner up spot in the women’s 4×400 meters in a time of 3 minutes 28.59 seconds.  USA red won in 3 minutes 26.73 seconds

It was a third place finish for the women’s sprint medley team including, Sherone Simpson, Gayon Evans , Verone chambers and Kalise spencer as the clocked 1 minute 38.31 seconds as the USA Red won in a world record 1 minute 35.20. The men’s sprint medley team was disqualified after crossing the line in third place..

Jamaica picked up another third place in the men’s 4×400 as the team of peter Matthews, Demish Gaye, Jamari rose and Jermaine Gayle clocked 3 minutes 03.12 seconds behind USA red who won in 3 minutes 01.31 seconds.
