Caribbean Examinations Council delays start of exams by 3 weeks; new start date is May 23

by April 27th, 2022

There will be a three-week delay to the start of examinations administered by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).

The Council pushed back the start date for the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (C-SEC) examinations to Monday, May 23.

CXC’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Wayne Wesley made the announcement during a press conference this afternoon (April 27).

Dr. Wesley noted that the three-week delay in the sitting of the exams will provide candidates with additional time to prepare.

Dr. Wesley also noted that an extension has also been granted for the submission of the School-Based Assessments (SBAs).

Today’s announcement comes in the wake of repeated calls by the Education Ministry and other stakeholders for the regional examinations to be pushed back.

Meantime, Dr. Wesley has sought to assure students that the offer to defer the sitting of the regional examinations is still available.

He also noted that in some cases, considerations will be made when grading the exams.

With the extension of the submission of SBAs from June 30 by a further 2 weeks, Dr. Wesley said the decision to allow students to recall SBAs, rests with the registrar in each country.
