CASE institutes emergency safety measures, following abduction of student

by March 10th, 2022

The College of Agriculture, Science and Education, CASE has instituted emergency measures to ensure the safety of students and staff.

The announcement follows a protest by students today (March 10), after one of their peers was allegedly abducted, this morning.

Following the incident, scores of students protested, calling for increased security on the campus.

It is reported that the student was on her way to class when she was abducted along the main road and taken to another section of the campus.

The schools resident security team was alerted and the police were summoned.

A search team, consisting of students, staff and security officers, was mobilized and the student was quickly rescued.

During an emergency press conference this afternoon, President of CASE Derrick Deslandes, said the alleged abductor escaped.

CASE said the safety and security measures instituted, include an immediate audit of the security system, as well as an expansion of both internal and external security teams.

The president said further measures will be implemented.

He added that case has also commenced the creation of what he calls ‘safe corridors, to be manned by the internal security team.

Meantime, Member of Parliament for East Portland, Ann-Marie Vaz has expressed concern over the alleged assault and abduction of a CASE student.

In condemning the incident, Mrs. Vaz said that the attacks should not be tolerated.

The MP has mobilized a team to assist the police in efforts to find the alleged attacker, who preliminary reports revealed, is believed to have been responsible for attacking another woman, in Mount Pleasant recently.

Mrs. Vaz is urging anyone with information about the predator to contact the police
