by May 30th, 2022

Residents of Castleton, St. Mary are calling on the Government to move swiftly in upgrading two main bridges, which they say, have been causing severe inconvenience to community members.

The residents, who staged a peaceful demonstration at the swing bridge, near Castleton Gardens this morning (May 30) said the bridge, which has not been repaired for years, is becoming dangerous to those who use it.

One resident told IRIE FM news that the swing bridge could collapse at any time.

He also called for the footbridge, near the Castleton Primary School to be upgraded to facilitate vehicular traffic.

He lamented that residents are forced to park their vehicles and cross the bridge on foot to their homes.

He said this not only leaves vehicles vulnerable to robbers but causes congestion, which also leads to accidents.

He said the situation must be addressed swiftly.
