The United States Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a level 4 travel notice for Jamaica, warning citizens against travel to the island.

This as the CDC says Jamaica’s covid-19 level is very high.

Over the past 5 days, Jamaica has recorded 3,770 new covid-19 cases.

The travel notice which was updated on the CDC’s website today, said citizens must avoid travel to Jamaica.

It said if citizens must travel to the island, they should ensure they are fully vaccinated before travel, as given the current situation in Jamaica, even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading covid-19 variants.

The tourism ministry says the level 4 designation by the United States Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is a disappointing development.

It says, especially given the fact that Jamaica has been a leader in establishing best practice protocols to protect both visitors and residents.

Senior strategist in the Tourism Ministry, Delano Seiveright while noting that the designation is not surprising, says he is hopeful that it will be lowered.
