Cecile questions Jamaican support after US cop kills Spanish Town man

by June 8th, 2020

Dancehall deejay Cecile, via social media, shared a picture of a Jamaican man who was killed by a white police State Trooper in New Jersey, two days before George Floyd was murdered.

In the caption on Instagram, Cecile wrote, “Well, let’s see how strong the Jamaican community is, or how much we care.”

On May 23, during a routine traffic stop with a New Jersey State Police Trooper, Maurice Gordon, who was reportedly unarmed, was shot multiple times. The 28-year-old Chemistry Major was originally from Spanish Town, Jamaica.

Cecile comments come following a string of local protests demanding justice for George Floyd who died in Minnesota on May 25, after a white police officer kneeled on his neck for 8-minutes.

Protesters also carried plaque cards demanding justice for Jamaica’s Susan Bogle, who was killed in her bed by a soldier as he and other army men reportedly searched for a wanted man.

Over the weekend, photographs and videos making the rounds across social media platforms, show United States Ambassador Donald Tapia mingling with protesters outside the US Embassy, who stood in solidarity against racism and discrimination.

Last week, Dancehall heavyweight Bounty Killer, and Reggae singer Nature Ellis supported the local protests held in Kingston.

Meanwhile, Dancehall deejay Spice joined protesters in Atlanta, Georgia. Black Lives Matter protests across the United States and other countries are ongoing.

George Floyd’s murder represents injustice against black people not just in America but across the world.
