Changes in legislation to help tackle crime – Chang

by January 14th, 2022

Minister of National Security, Dr Horace Chang, says the government is banking on changes in legislation to help tackle the surge in crime affecting the country.

Speaking at the St Elizabeth police headquarters in Black River yesterday, Dr Chang said it is not an easy task to pass legislation.

He noted that the government is finalizing the penalties under the firearms act.

Dr Chang said the newly established ministry of Legal Affairs and reform will assist in the passing of critical legislation.

In the meantime, he noted that the security forces have been clamping down on the guns for drug trade.

He said there are over 300 entry points along the coastline being monitored by the security forces.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, Major General Antony Anderson noted that crimes, apart from murder, have been trending down.
