Changes made to procurement process at ministry following Auditor General’s report

Minister with responsibility for Education Karl Samuda says the education ministry has changed how it handles its programme for repair works at schools

He says new policies and procedures are in place also a monitoring mechanism to ensure there is no breach of procurement guidelines.

The comment from Samuda followed the release of the Auditor General’s performance audit report on the education ministry which revealed breaches in the award of contracts.

The Auditor General found that some contracts for school construction, maintenance and repairs, breached procurement guidelines.

Today, Samuda admitted that there were some issues in how the matter was handled.

He says a system has been set up to assess the situation and determine what is required

He says the system has been revamped to ensure there is no future breach.
