Chaos in Downtown this morning, as hundreds protested against gov’t’s Covid response; UIC leader among those arrested

There was chaos in Downtown Kingston this morning (September 22), as the United Independent Congress, UIC tried to lead a march on Gordon House.

The situation unfolded with clashes with police and arrests including one during a live interview on Irie Fm.

The UIC decided to march to protest against the government’s Covid response among other issues, despite the warning from the police that the march is illegal.

Hundreds of placard bearing people gathered Downtown.

Police arrested a number of people including President of the UIC Joseph Patterson and several others. A member of the UIC who was streaming the protest on twitter, said Mr. Patterson was moved from the Kingston Central Police Station to an undisclosed location.

Among those arrested is Clive Muhammed Jamaica’s Representative for nation of Islam Leader Louis Farrakhan.

He was detained during a live interview on Irie Fm with Amber Crowl during Easy Skanking.

Meantime, Senior Superintendent Steve Mcgregor who is in Charge of Strategic Operations for Area Four sought to explain why the leader of the UIC, Joseph Patterson, was arrested.
