Charred remains of new born baby left at Portmore Mall

The St. Catherine South police are investigating an incident on Monday at the Portmore Mall where the charred remains of a new born girl were found inside a bag.

Head of the St. Catherine South police Senior Superintendent Christopher Phillips says the baby who was a week old, was also found with lacerations to the right arm.

He says the mother of the baby, reportedly gave the bag containing the remains of the newborn to worker at the mall earlier in the daystating that it was a gift to be collected by someone else.

SSP Phillips says the worker alerted the police after noticing a foul odour coming from the bag.

He notes that the mother who is in her 20s was taken to hospital.

SSP Phillips is urging relatives of persons exhibiting mental health issues, to seek professional assistance.
