Children road safety campaign launched

A club aimed at ensuring the safety of children as they traverse the nation’s roadways, was launched, on Wednesday.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, transport minister, audley shaw said, “The Safe Passage”, or The Safe Routes to School Safety club”, also aims to provide a safe environment for students, as they traverse specific roadways in the vicinity of selected schools.

It will be introduced in seven primary schools across the country, and will promote advocacy and behaviour change for students.

Mr. Shaw stressed the importance of behaviour change in use of roadways, in reducing the occurrence of accidents and fatalities.

He lamented, the fact, that too many children are being killed on the nation’s roadways.

Mr. Shaw urged motorists to be careful when using the roadways, and to be vigilant when it comes to pedestrians.

He also encouraged pedestrians to exercise care when using the nation’s roads.
