Children’s Advocate Diahann Gordon-Harrison says she has written to the Bureau of Standards requesting tests on the sweets which caused more than a dozen students of Clan Carthy High school to become ill on Wednesday.

Reports are that 18 students from the institution fell ill after consuming sweets sold to them by another student.

The students were taken to hospital where they were treated for suspected food poisoning.

One of the students remains hospitalized.

Mrs. Gordon-Harrison says she has asked the Bureau of Standards to intervene to determine if the sweets met consumption standards.

She notes that her office will be looking into the student who was selling the candy, to determine if the situation involves child labour.
