Children’s Advocate Diahann Gordon Harrison calls for penalties for persons who force others to commit crimes

Children’s Advocate, Diahann Gordon Harrison said the Government should update its laws to include penalties for persons who force others to commit crimes.

 

Speaking on the topic of human trafficking of children, Mrs. Gordon Harrison said forced criminality is recognized in other parts of the world but not Jamaica.

 

She explained that it is an aspect of human trafficking while advocating for its inclusion in Jamaica’s concept of trafficking.

 

Mrs. Gordon Harrison said young people are generally targeted because they can be easily forced into committing criminal acts.

She explained that oftentimes young children are recruited for criminal acts in Jamaica.
