Chinese woman who slapped teen girl freed

The police are reporting that the matter involving a Chinese woman seen in a video slapping a teenaged girl had already been disposed of in the court.

The Constabulary Communications Unit says the woman was brought before the Trelawny Parish Court on Tuesday, on a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm.

The incident has only now come to public attention, after a video showing the girl being slapped by the woman went viral on social media.

A statement from the CCU says the Chinese woman who was seen in a video slapping a thirteen-year-old female student in a grocery store on Main Street in Clarks Town, Trelawny, was arrested and charged on December 7, last year.

53-year-old Chinese National Yuemei Pan was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

Reports are that about 12:45 p.m., the teen went into the store operated by Pan, picked up an item to purchase and went to the counter.

Pan then grabbed the teen and proceeded to slap her in the face while accusing her of stealing.

A report was made to the police and Pan was arrested and charged that same day.

The matter was brought before the Trelawny Parish Court on Tuesday, January 9, where no evidence was offered.

The CCU says Pan was freed, due to lack of evidence against her.
