Christano Ronaldo tops Forbes List of highest paid athletes

Real Madrid and Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo has retained his place at the top of the Forbes list of highest-paid athletes after earning $93million up to June 1, 2017.

Ronaldo who lifted his second successive champion’s league trophy in Cardiff on Saturday – raked in 58million dollars in salary and winnings, with endorsements of 35million dollars keeping him top of the list.

Basketball icon LeBron James is Ronaldo’s nearest challenger with total earnings of 86.2million dollars.

Ronaldo’s great rival Lionel Messi completed the top three but the Barcelona forward – who slips down a place from second – was 13million dollars below on 80million dollars for the 12-month period.

Roger Federer sits in fourth spot with earnings of $62million dollars while NBA star Kevin Durant completes the top five.

The rest of the top ten is completed by quarterback Andrew luck, golfer Rory Mcilroy breaks into that group for the first time, along with basketballers Stephen curry and James harden, while formula one driver Lewis Hamilton rounds out the top 10.

Serena Williams is the only female athlete on the list after earning $27million dollars, a figure that sees her finishing just outside the top 50.
