Churches, NIA call for meeting on Petrojam situation

by July 6th, 2018

The Jamaica Umbrella Group of Churches and National Integrity Action have jointly called for meetings with the country’s political and private sector leadership, in light of the controversy surrounding Petrojam.

In a statement today (July 6) the groups say, given the nature of the allegations and the importance of not only appearing to, but actually demonstrating, a commitment to upholding the highest moral and ethical responsibility, they are seeking separate meetings with Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Leader of the Opposition Dr. Peter Phillips, and the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica.

This is to address what they say, is the long standing deficit of public trust, which has been further damaged by the Petrojam situation.

Chairman of the Jamaica Umbrella Group of Churches, Reverend Adinhair Jones says the JUGC, and the NIA met yesterday, to consult on the question of integrity and good corporate governance, and the erosion of public trust.

Reverend Jones says, the wrong signals are being sent to the nation’s youth as to how government operates, and there needs to be an engagement on strengthening the resolve to abide by high ethical principles in leadership and governance.
