Coach of the Jamaica Scorpions Robert Samuels has been sacked with immediate effect.

This after the board of directors of the franchise decided not to renew the contract of the former national and West Indies player which was twice extended to end on December 31.

In reviewing the tenure of Samuels the Board concluded that a change was necessary.

The final nail in the coffin was the embarrassing opening round defeat to the Barbados pride in the cricket West Indies four Day Championship.

This follows the scorpions 5th place finish in the 2016/17 season and a fourth place finish in the 2017/18 season.

He also led the team to a 5th place finish in the regional super 50 in 2016, 2nd place in 2017 and a semi-final finish this year.

According to the Scorpions Franchise board, the decision not to renew Samuels’s contract is a first of a number of changes coming to the franchise.

The board also thanked Samuels for his contribution to cricket over the years and wishes him all the success as he continue in the sport.

In the meantime Irie sports understands that former national coach Robert Haynes is the front runner to take over as head coach of the Jamaica Scorpions for the remainder of the  CWI four day championship which will resume in January.
