Commentators react to JLP conference & PM Holness presentation

by November 24th, 2019

Political annalist Linton Gordon has noted that Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party, Prime Minister Andrew Holness played it safe in his presentation at today’s annual JLP conference.

The Prime Minister addressed a packed National Arena in Kingston, and spoke on several issues such as corruption, brand Jamaica, education, crime and violence.

Mr. Gordon pointed out that it was noticeable that Mr. Holness did not speak negatively about the Opposition Peoples National Party, and instead focused on being more inclusive.

And, political commentator Kevin Obrien Chang said the presence of the United States ambassador at the Jamaica Labour Party annual conference in Kingston is an indication of good relations between both countries.

This in the wake of concerns about Jamaica’s relations with the USA and China, with comments from some quarters that the USA was wary of the islands dealings with the Asian nation.

Obrien Chang said the conference overall was a good one.

He noted that the Prime Minister touched on several issues, but one that seemed most significant was his announcement of government’s plans to build 6 STEM schools.
