Commuters left stranded as taxi operators withdraw service in East Portland

by May 2nd, 2022

Scores of commuters, including students, were left stranded this morning (May 2) as taxi operators withdrew their service in East Portland.

The operators are protesting poor road conditions, which they say, are a result of works being conducted under the Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project.

One taxi operator who identified himself as Tyler told IRIE FM news that the road condition is unacceptable.

He blamed the project’s contractor for not considering motorists, especially after work on the roadway resulted in gridlock on the Drapers main road, on Friday.

The taxi operator said he is not in support of planned work by the National Works Agency to rehabilitate the Zion Hill to Breastworks/Nonsuch main road as an alternative route.
