Continued increase in Covid hospitalizations; 14 more deaths and 367 new cases

The number of people hospitalised with Covid-19 continues to rise.

75 more persons have been hospitalised within the last 24 hours, moving the number from 589 yesterday (August 24) to 664.

Among those hospitalised, 91 are severely ill, 61 are critically ill and 193 are moderately ill.

Meantime, 33 more persons have recovered, pushing the tally to 47,876.

14,128 cases are active.

And the ministry is reporting 14 more Covid-19 related deaths, pushing the tally to 1,431.

11 of the deceased are females and 3 are males.

They range in age from 65 to 86.

They lived in St. Ann, St. James, Westmoreland, St. Catherine, Clarendon and Portland.

The ministry says 12 more deaths are under investigation.

Meantime, 367 new cases were recorded yesterday, pushing the tally to 63,831.

Of the new cases 220 are females and 147 are males.

They range in age from 18 days to 99 years.

All parishes recorded new cases.

Kingston and St. Andrew recorded the highest number of cases with 80, followed by Westmoreland with 75.

The positivity rate is 44. 4 per cent.
