Cop & civilian arrested in relation to courthouse bomb threats

by January 22nd, 2019

A district constable is one of 2 men arrested and charged in relation to the bomb threats made recently at court houses in Trelawny and Kingston.

The Constabulary Communications Unit says  two men who caused panic in downtown Kingston and Falmouth, Trelawny when they called the courthouses and reported that bombs had been planted within the precincts of the court, have been charged by detectives assigned to the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch.

They have been identified as 53-year-old businessman Cardel Clarke of Top Town in Clarke’s Town, Trelawny and 34-year-old District Constable Jason Williams of Kelly Road, Kingston 2.

The two are charged with creating public mischief.

Clarke will appear in the Trelawny parish court on Wednesday, February 6 while Williams will appear in the S Andrew parish court on Thursday, February 21.

Investigators from the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation branch, said they found that the threats, which occurred on three occasions in August, September and December 2018, were concocted by the two, as a ploy to detract from ongoing court cases in which they are involved.

Head of the CTOC Assistant Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey said all threats to the criminal justice system are treated as serious.

Investigations into two other cases are continuing.
