Cop held at JDF HQ to be removed

by July 4th, 2019

Steps are being taken to remove one of the two policemen held in relation to the shooting incident in April at Chedwin Park, St. Catherine from the Jamaica Defence Force Headquarters.

The decision to remove Constable Ramone Scott resulted from queries on Tuesday by defence lawyers as to why the policeman was being detained at Up Park Camp.

The Home Circuit Court was told that Scott is to be transferred to a police lockup.

Scott is charged jointly with Corporal Kirk Fraser.

The court was told that Scott was removed from a previous location because of a threat assessment.

Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn in response said arrangements were being made for Scott to be removed from Up Park Camp.

The policemen were arrested and charged arising from the fatal shooting of Sheldon”Junior” Biggs at a dance at Chedwin Park and a motor vehicle collision causing the death of Kevron Burrell.

Corporal Rohan Williams who was allegedly travelling with the two accused was killed in a motor vehicle crash when an off duty cop chased the three policemen after Daley was shot.

It was reported that the vehicle in which the policemen were travelling while they were being chased by the off duty cop, allegedly crashed into the vehicle in which Burrell was travelling.

It is further alleged that three policemen were on suspension from the police force at the time of the incident.

They are also facing charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and shooting with intent.
