by April 19th, 2018

Efforts will be made over the next few weeks to get more beds at the Cornwall Regional hospital.

When  in patients at the hospital were relocated from the main building some to other areas of the compound  due to health risks, the bed space dropped from over 400 to about 200.

Clinical Coordinator at Cornwall Dr. Delroy Fray says the hospital is still catering to emergency services.

He says its hoped that about 60 more beds will be acquired soon.

Meantime, the Nurses Association of Jamaica says members who have been reassigned from the Cornwall Regional Hospital to Falmouth, are coping with the displacement.

Surgical services have been moved to Falmouth in the wake of complaints of illness due to contaminants at Cornwall.

NAJ President Carmen Johnson says the daily commute is challenging but manageable.

She says the commute would be made easier with more buses.

Hospital staff who have their own vehicles and have been reassigned to Falmouth are given transport allowance, while transportation is provided for other workers.
