Corporal Rohan James challenges interdiction in court today

by August 2nd, 2023

Attorneys representing Police Federation Chairman Corporal Rohan James are heading to court today (August 2), as they challenge the decision of Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson to interdict him.

Corporal James has filed an application in court seeking to reverse the decision.

He was interdicted last week for criticizing the high command over overtime monies not paid to the rank-and-file members of the constabulary.

Attorney at law Hugh Wildman who is representing Corporal James said today’s hearing is to take place at the Supreme Court.

Bert Samuels, who is another attorney representing James, said the interdiction is a breach of Corporal James’ right to free speech and freedom of expression.

In a letter Major Anderson last week, James was told to cease duties with the Jamaica Constabulary Force in keeping with regulations 35-1 of the police service regulations.

The letter also noted that Corporal James would only receive 3-quarters of his salary and that he was to hand over his identification card and all government-issued property in his possession upon receipt of the notice.
