Couple accused of killing Vogel get 25 yr sentence

The two people convicted of the murder of university lecturer, Dr. Peter Vogel, were sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.

Former household helper Yanika Scott and her boyfriend Kelvin Downer are to serve 15 years before being eligible for parole.

Justice Evon Brown, who handed down sentence today (Sep 29) called the killing a senseless crime.

He says, he was at a loss to understand, how the decision to resort to such extreme violence, was made in this case.

Scott and Downer showed no emotion as the sentence was handed-down.

Dr. Vogel’s body was found in the study room at his home, in College Commons, St Andrew on July 19, 2007.

Police investigators testified, that his hands were tied behind his back, his feet bound, and there was a piece of cloth tied around his mouth.

Evidence was given, that he was strangled.
