Court orders reinstatement of McBean as Police Federation Chairman

by March 15th, 2019

The attorney representing the Chairman of the Jamaica Police Federation, who was ousted in January, has declared today’s (Mar 15) court order that she be reinstated, as a big victory.

Attorney-at-law Hugh Wildman made the comments today after the Supreme Court ordered that Arleen McBean be returned to the position immediately, until the claim she has filed against the Police Federation is heard and determined.

The Police Federation said McBean was removed after a no confidence vote.

Corporal McBean is contending that she was illegally removed from the post.

Inspector Sheldon Gordon, who replaced her, and General Secretary Sergeant Patrae Rowe, are named as respondents in the suit.

Mr. Wldman is of the view that senior members of the federation resented taking orders from a junior officer.

For her part, Corporal McBean says she is thankful for the ruling.

McBean was appointed in May last year and was due to remain in office until May this year, but she was ousted in January.

In her claim, she denied any flouting of the rules of the Police Federation or committing any procedural breaches.
