Covid-19 death toll up to 217

Two more senior citizens have died from covid-19.

 

Jamaica’s death toll now stands at 217.

 

The two deceased are both males, one a 64-year-old from St. Mary and the other, a 70-year-old from St. Catherine.

 

Three other deaths are under investigation.

 

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Wellness says 47 new cases were recorded yesterday.

 

The new cases consist of 26 males and 21 females, ranging from 10 to 74 years.

 

The new cases push the island’s tally to 9,373.

 

St. Catherine led yesterday’s tally with 17 cases, followed by Kingston and St. Andrew with 11.

 

Trelawny had 4 cases, Clarendon, St. James and Westmoreland had 3 each, St. Ann had 2 cases and St. Elizabeth and Manchester had one case each.

 

Meantime, there were 41 recoveries, pushing that total to 4,745.

 

4,287 covid-19 cases are active.

 

The Ministry adds that 76 people are hospitalised, 17 of whom are moderately ill and 6 who are critically ill.
