Covid-19 hospitalizations continue to increase

The number of persons hospitalized with Covid-19 has increased.

786 persons are now in hospital, up from the 755 reported yesterday (September 7).

122 of the patients are severely ill, 50 critically ill and 158 moderately ill.

Meantime, the Health Ministry is reporting that St. Ann recorded the highest number of new Covid-19 related deaths.

Of the 20 additional deaths which occurred between August 12 and September 7, St. Ann recorded 9.

Manchester recorded 4, Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Thomas and St. Mary recorded 2 deaths each and St. Elizabeth recorded 1.

11 of the deceased are females and 9 are males.

They range in age from 51 to 83 years.

The death toll is now 1,666

9 other deaths are under investigation.

And the 672 new Covid-19 cases have pushed the country’s case count to 73,496.

The new cases range in age from 3 days to 101 years.

Kingston & St. Andrew recorded the highest number of cases with 95 followed by St. Catherine with 94.

The positivity rate is 42.2 per cent.

90 more persons have recovered, pushing the tally to 49,135.

There are 22,225 active cases.
