Customs Agency ‘declares war’ on entry of illegal guns, drugs

by March 5th, 2022

The Jamaica Customs Agency has declared war on illegal guns entering the country and the perpetrators involved in the criminal activity.

This in the wake of some operations and seizures, the most recent being yesterday, when several guns, ammunition and drugs were found in a barrel at a warehouse in Kingston.

Customs employees had detected an anomaly, and further investigations resulted in the discovery of 18 pistols, 3 high powered rifles, and marijuana.

This is the second major seizure by the agency, since the beginning of this month.

Commissioner of Customs Velma Ricketts Walker said improvements to internal operations have increased the agency’s capacity to successfully fight the importation of contraband.

She commended customs staff for their vigilance when screening, people, vehicles, and goods entering Jamaica, which has returned successful detections.
